...Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Los Angeles Dodgers ace and one of baseball’s premier pitchers, is set to anchor Team Japan’s pitching rotation as the defending champions head into the 2026 World Baseball Classic in March. After a standout 2025 MLB season, highlighted by a strong regular-season performance and a dominant postseason run for the Dodgers, Yamamoto brings elite playoff style experience and proven championship-caliber arm to a Samurai Japan roster that also features other stars like his teammate Shohei Ohtani.
Japan manager Hirokazu Ibata has leaned on Yamamoto as a cornerstone of his pitching plans, with expectations that he’ll be pivotal in key Pool C matchups beginning in early March at the Tokyo Dome. For Yamamoto, who has said representing his country fills him with pride and responsibility, the 2026 Classic offers another chance to shine on the international stage and help Japan defend the title it last won in 2023, harnessing his elite talent against a global field of top competitors.
