John Gibson posted his fourth shutout of the season, stopping 21 shots on Monday night as Detroit blanked the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 in Denver. Lucas Raymond finished with a goal and an assist, and Marco Kasper’s tally 33 seconds into the game gave the Red Wings a lead they never relinquished. The win came after the Avalanche shut out Detroit 5-0 in Motown on Saturday.
Nick Schmaltz had a huge night on Monday, recording his second hat trick of the season and adding a pair of assists in the Mammoth’s 6-2 romp over the visiting Vancouver Canucks. John Marino assisted on three goals, and Lawson Crouse finished with a goal and an assist. Mikhail Sergachev and JJ Peterka also lit the lamp for Utah.
Utah can complete a season sweep after beating the Red Wings in Detroit 4-1 on Dec. 17. Alex DeBrincat leads the Red Wings with 30 goals, while Dylan Larkin checks in with 25, and Raymond tops the club with 60 points. Gibson is 22-11-2 with a .905 save percentage and 2.60 goals against average. Dylan Guenther paces the Mammoth with 24 goals, with Schmaltz running his total to 22 on Monday night. Clayton Keller’s 52 points top the squad. Karel Vejmelka is 26-14-2 with a shutout to go with a .900 save percentage and 2.61 GAA.
